The ‘Kids of Note-Ability’ Music Academy is an affordable and accessible non-profit organization dedicated to the children of St. Croix, open to children in GRADES 4 through 12 (ten to eighteen years of age), to explore and develop their creative appetites, providing professional direction and mentoring in the musical arts. Established by Island Music Journey’s founder and Executive Director, Brian Silber, this unique music academy is created to also foster personal growth, self esteem, pride and confidence in our youth. As an integral component of the academy, our goal is to make musical instruction available to our youth at risk, offering subsidized and tuition free scholarships based upon need. There will be awards and scholarships based upon merit for advanced musical studies offered to those students displaying dedication and excellence within the academy. Each year, Island Music Journeys conducts exclusive performances for the music students on island featuring extraordinary musicians from the world over (see www.IslandMusicJourneys.com). These concerts / workshops provide an opportunity for our young aspiring musicians to witness musical excellence for themselves and perhaps as well, to ponder possibilities of a career in the music arts.

Brian Silber, Executive Director / Founder
Brian Silber is a full time professional violinist, teacher and recording artist who began his musical aspirations in Baltimore, Md. at the age of 8 years old. Although mostly a self-taught musician, Brian’s passion for music grew with the opportunities afforded him by his parents. They not only provided him several years of professional instruction, but also nurtured his love of the violin by taking him along to countless concerts by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra whenever the world’s legendary and iconic classical violinists were featured. At 13, Brian auditioned for and was accepted as a first violinist with the acclaimed Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra. After spending four years with the youth orchestra and ascending to Concert Master, Brian discovered his love of the art of improvisation which opened up many doors and allowed him to develop his comfort level playing with many different artists and exploring various musical styles, including jazz, Brazilian, bluegrass, Irish, folk, classical, and more. Brian has performed and recorded with many different artists from New York to Paris, Jamaica to St. Croix. He currently has four CDs commercially available with an anticipated collection of fine Brazilian jazz planned for his next project. Brian can be heard performing weekly on St. Croix as a soloist and with other island musicians.

It is through these combined experiences since a young child that Brian finds inspiration to help build this academy that may well serve as a source of personal pride, satisfaction and empowerment for others.
